Open Light Emerging Technologies Conference

A day of workshops on Emerging Technologies in the Classroom with other NM educators.

 

Educators participating in this event will be exploring and extending their use of emerging technologies in the classroom.  Come and learn how to use and incorporate interactive technologies!

How to Register

Open Light partners have selected a variety of sessions based on interests of those who registered early.

•    Registration is required to confirm your sessions in advance.  

•    All sessions will be 3 hours in length.

•    When you register you will be able to select any two (2) sessions, one for morning and one for afternoon. SO, preview the session descriptions below under Workshops, so you know what you want ;-).

•    If you registered early, you still need to confirm your sessions.

Workshops

Select one workshop for morning and one for afternoon when you register. 

Please note, if registration is still limited on the final March 4 registration deadline, you will be contacted and asked to select another choice. 

 

Morning Sessions

 

•    Audio Podcasting (Multimedia)

A three-hour hands on session where you will use Audacity (an open source tool) to create a complete audio podcast. 

•    Animoto & Photo Sharing (Multimedia)

Free and easy ways to store and share pictures online, combined with Animoto to turn them into great videos.

•    Moodle for Beginners (Online Teaching & Learning)

Create a course, establish settings, add resources, assignment bins and more.

•    Google Tools for Educators (21st Century Teaching)

What all can you do with Google? Custom Search Engines, Sites, Notebook, Docs, Spreadsheets, iGoogle and More!

•    Interactive Web 2.0 Tools (21st Century Teaching)

Extend your knowledge of interactive Web 2.0 tools such as Wordle, Voicethread, Delicious and more. Find out how they are being used in classrooms.

 

 

Afternoon Sessions

 

•   Getting started with GIMP (Multimedia)

Open Source (no licensing fee) Photo Editing Software

•    Video Podcasting (Multimedia)

Same as Audio Podcasting, but will utilize Photo Story or Windows Movie Maker (both free and easily available). 

•    Moodle Activities: Beyond the Basics (Online Teaching & Learning)

See a preview of different Moodle Activities to integrate into your course. Practice in a supportive environment with the support of experienced Moodlers.

•    Start Pages (21st Century Teaching)

Pull together online content easily with tools like Netvibes and PageFlakes – find out why educators might be interested in customized web pages.

•    Wikis and Blogs (21st Century Teaching)

Identify ways to use blogs and wikis in education and develop basic skill sets for using these tools. Discuss issues and concerns for using blogs and wikis with K-12 students.

•    Edmodo: A Microclassroom (21st Century Teaching)

Learn how this micro course management system can be used to communicate, collect assignments, and share a calendar with your students.

Thanks to everyone for a great day... I did some moodling and flaking... the pageflake thing is really a lot of fun and I can see many uses for it... I read some articles yesterday that indicated it might go away... hope not...
